Our latest project—a charming annexe in Stowmarket, Suffolk—has been lovingly refurbished into a fully equipped Airbnb getaway, perfect for short-stay guests seeking comfort and character. Finished with Client led design and features from a sleek new shower to a cosy lofted bedroom, here’s a closer look at the details that make this annexe stand out.
1. Luxury Shower Suite with High-Quality Wall Panels
The annexe’s new bathroom is contemporary and practical. We installed a walk-in shower tray, then lined the walls with premium, waterproof shower panels. These panels not only provide a seamless, grout-free finish but are also brilliantly easy to clean—ideal for a busy holiday let. A rainfall showerhead and polished chrome fittings complete the spa-like feel, offering guests a truly revitalising experience each morning.
2. Bespoke Hearth & Upgraded Fireplace:
In the living area, we retained the original fireplace’s heritage charm while giving it a modern twist. We rebuilt the hearth to bespoke specifications, surrounding the cast-iron insert with hand-cut checkerboard tiles and a slim-profile black slate hearth. The result is a statement focal point that balances rustic warmth with crisp, contemporary lines—perfect for cosy winter evenings.
3. Clever Storage with Floating Shelving:
Space is at a premium in a small annexe, so we designed and fitted custom floating shelves around the fireplace alcove. Crafted from sustainably sourced timber and stained to complement the deep teal walls, these shelves provide ample display and storage space for the fridge and microwave without encroaching on the room’s footprint. Guests can neatly organise books, board games, or decorative touches on the higher shelves keeping the lounge clutter-free.
4. Acoustic Oak Feature Wall. Space Creation:
To add texture and improve acoustics, we installed a wall of vertical oak slats opposite the fireplace. This acoustic panelling not only absorbs ambient noise—making movie nights or relaxed conversation more enjoyable—but also injects natural warmth and visual interest. Painted backdrop walls in a rich teal hue frame the oak feature, creating a striking contrast that elevates the entire living space.
Understanding the need for extra sleeping quarters, we converted the existing loft void into a snug mezzanine bedroom. A custom spiral staircase, finished in black metal with wooden treads, provides access without sacrificing precious floor area. Up top, the loft offers room for a double mattress, reading light, and railing screening that echoes the nearby fireplace’s arched pattern—turning an under-used attic into a premium sleeping nook.
